- Jeff Tedford’s 9th year as head coach.
- Quarterback Kevin Riley (who began his career by filling in for an injured Nate Lonshore in 2007) is now a Senior. Last year Riley passed for just 2850 yards and a 54.7% completion rate. Those numbers will need to improve for Cal to improve upon their 2009 8-5 record.
- Offensively this team did nothing great, but nothing terrible last year.
- On the other hand, the defense was great against the run (2nd in Pac-10 and 23rd in the nation) but terrible against the pass (9th in the Pac-10 and 111th in the nation).
- This defense switched to a 3-4 scheme in 2008 and continue to use it. They have a new Defensive Coordinator this year in Clancy Pendergast.
