- Last year’s team was defined by the loss of Jasper Howard who was murdered just 6 games into their season. They were 4-2 at that point and lost the next three games (by a combined 10 points). It took two overtimes against Notre Dame (in South Bend no less) to finally get them a win again. They won four straight to finish the season, including a 20-7 win over South Carolina in the PapaJohns.com Bowl (what a name).
- This year this team is quite experienced with 8 starters returning on offense and 8 on defense.
- Quarterback Zach Frazer (Notre Dame transfer) had less than desirable statistics, however, completing just over 53% of his passes and throwing 10 TDs compared to 9 Interceptions. The new Offensive Coordinator last year promised more passing, but Frazer struggled and then was injured. Cody Endres did much better, but then was injured as well and Frazer came back. Interestingly enough Frazer had a 7 TD to 2 INT ratio in the last 5 games that he started. Both QBs are back this year.
- Jordan Todman will be leading the rushing attack. Last year, UConn had to replace Donald Brown (2,083 yards rushing and he’s currently playing in the NFL for the Colts). Todman stepped in and led the team in rushing with 1188 yards (the only reason why his stats are half of Brown’s is because Andre Dixon was also on the scene rushing for over 1000 yards himself). Dixon is gone this year so it will be all Todman.
