Mississippi State (2009 Statistics)
- Head Coach Dan Mullen is in his second year. He came from Florida where he was the Offensive Coordinator and spent significant time working with and developing Tim Tebow (now playing in the NFL for the Denver Bronocs). This team was just 5-7 last year.
- Mullen brought the Spread Option offense from Florida. (SEE SPREAD OPTION ARTICLE). In the system that Mullen oversaw in Florida, they predominantly used the Spread Option to run the ball. Therefore it makes sense that his Bulldogs had the number one rushing offense in the SEC last year (9th in the nation) while producing one of the worst passing offenses (113th) in the nation.
- This year’s Quarterback Chris Relf is more of a runner than a passer and should fit in with this system well. But they will need to become a more balanced team in order to win more games.
