Oklahoma State (2009 Statistics)
- The Head Coach is Mike Gundy (in his 6th season). They play home games at Boone Pickens Stadium (named for Billionaire financier T. Boone Pickens who has donated $400 million to his alma mater).
- New/old defensive coordinator Bill Young returned last year for his third stint at Oklahoma State (his last time in Stillwater was in 1978) and actually helped the defense improve unlike previous coordinator Tim Beckman (head coach at Toledo) who spent two years here without any improvement.
- While the defense made tremendous strides last year, their offense took a step back
- Look for passing numbers to increase with the new offensive style they are implementing this year. Last year their passing statistics were way down as Quarterback Zac Robinson passed for 1,000 yards less than the previous year as well as taking a 5% dip in his completion percentage, which fell to just below 60%. He was the all-time passing leader for the Cowboys and is gone this year. His back-up Brandon Weeden spent 5 years pitching in the minor league. Baseball players turned Quarterback seem to be extremely popular in college football these days.
- A total of just 8 starters return from the 2009 squad (4 each on offense and defense). That’s really not a lot.
