- Joe Paterno is in his 45th year as Head Coach!
- The big question entering the 2010 season for Penn State is who replaces Quarterback Daryll Clark. He was a significant portion of the offense in 2009. This year it’s between his back-up Kevin Newsome who has just 11 career attempts and true freshman Robert Boldin. Joe Paterno has never in his previous 44 years as head coach started a true freshman at Quarterback.
- Running Backs Evan Royster and Stephfon Green are solid and should help relieve some of the pressure on the new starting Quarterback. But the rushing offense could use to improve as they took a slight dip last year.
- There was a lot of shuffling around on the Offensive Line in the off season. The good is that they are all experienced upperclassmen. The bad is that this unit is unstable.
- Statistically this defense put up its best numbers of the decade in 2009, allowing just over 12 points per game and a total of 274 yards per game. This was impressive considering they only returned four starters on this unit last year. However, that included their top two tacklers and all three of their linebackers. This year four of the top five tacklers are gone and all were NFL draft selections in April. That’s a huge loss of talent. Furthermore, Penn State loses all three of their Linebackers. While “Linebacker U” consistently provides talent at the Linebacker position, this unit in unkown and unproven.
