- Mike Sherman’s 3rd year as head coach (he had previously been in the NFL, most notebly as the head coach of the Green Bay Packers from 2000-2005).
- Sherman runs a pro-style offense and when he came in immediately made changes that weren’t necessarily positive. In fact, A&M had a “Thunder and Lightening” rushing offense led by Javorskie Lane and Mike Goodson in 2007 that declined from one of the best rushing offenses in the nation to one of the absolute worst in 2008 when Sherman took over. But last year he seemed to get it back on track and backs Christine Michael and Cyrus Gray, both whom return.
- Quarterback Jerrod Johnson set several school records in 2009 with his 3,579 yards passing, 30-8 Touchdown-Interception ratio and 506 yards rushing.
- Defense returns 9 starters. But this defense was horrible last year! They were last in the Big 12 in scoring, passing and total defense.
