#18 Ohio State beats Miami (Ohio) 56-10
- Quarterback Braxton Miller had over 200 yards passing and 161 yards rushing (school record for a quarterback). His most memorable play was a 65 yard touchdown run where he stutter-stepped to make his would-be-tackler miss.
- ESPN Stats and Analysis quote: “Tim Tebow had 338 total yards in his debut as a starter under Urban Meyer in 2007 (300 passing, 38 rushing) Braxton Miller had 368 total yards in his Meyer debut today (207 passing, 161 rushing).” That comparison means good things for Buckeye fans as Tebow won the Heisman Trophy under Meyer’s reign and two national championships (one as the starter).
- Best statistic for the Buckeyes: Ohio State rushing defense held Miami to -1 yards rushing.
- Area for improvement: Passing defense. While the rushing defense was incredible, the Buckeyes gave up over 300 passing yards to Miami.
- Most memorable play: Devin Smith’s one-handed 23 yard touchdown catch, which prompted this tweet from @KingJames (LeBron James): “Just saw the catch of the year so far watching the O State game! @BraxtonMiller5 to Devin Smith #TDBucks”
- Next week’s opponent is UCF. UCF is back in Ohio for the second straight week after going to Akron (about 2 hours away from Columbus) where they beat the Zips 56-14 in Week 1. Ohio State has won 58 straight home games against non-conference un-ranked opponents. I only repeated that football nuggest because you will hear it a dozen times before next Saturday and it’s pretty meaningless.
