Arizona Homecoming: Up and at em’ at the crack of dawn
They say the best way to recover from embarrassment is to hold you head high and move on to the next task at hand. For Arizona, this is the road we now face. Arizona (5-4, 2-4 Pac-12) will take on Colorado (1-8, 1-5 Pac-12) at Arizona Stadium with a crowd expecting positive results. Thankfully, this match up should be no problem for the Wildcats despite having to make do without their starting quarterback as Matt Scott sustained a concussion last week against UCLA. Back-up quarterback B.J. Denker will likely start in Scott’s place against the Buffaloes. Denker has taken the field in the past, filling in for Scott after injury or when the Cats were ahead. However, Denker has not had much in terms of game experience. He is averaging just 5.3 yards per pass attempt, with just 23 passes.
Other injuries on the team include safety Jourdon Grandon and offensive guard Chris Putton; both are starters and are recovering from concussions. More high profile injuries include Hank Hobson who was hospitalized after collapsing during the UCLA game last week and Taimi Tutogi who remains questionable after sustaining a neck injury in practice. With injuries plaguing the Wildcats, coaches have been forced to dig through the depth chart to fill critical positions in the starting line-up.
After last week’s unexpected thrashing, the Arizona Wildcats are searching for redemption in the form of a win against Colorado. While we would have rather enter Homecoming week fresh off a win, the Wildcats will have to muster up all their energy to keep the festivities going; and on Homecoming day, students will have to dig extra deep for that energy. This weekend’s big match up will take place at 11:30 am MST. The festivities kick-off at 7:30 am (less than an hour after the sun rises). These activities include the tents on the mall and the Alumni Association Tailgate. The ZonaZoo tailgate will commence at 7:15 am with the distribution of free breakfast burritos to the first 300 students! The Homecoming parade will start bright and early at 8:00 am, followed by the tailgating festivities until game time. Winter has finally hit Tucson and this Saturday will hold weather unlike any we’ve had this season. At kick off, Tucson is expecting a temperature in the low 50’s with a high chance of showers. If you’re feeling unprepared for this weather, be sure to take advantage of the bookstore’s Bear Down Sale and take 25% of all apparel! Recommended wardrobe for this game includes: a hat, a scarf, a thick jacket, gloves, and rainboots for the walk home. This is a far cry from the crop tops and deconstructed shirts our Zonazoo girls are used to, but this cold weather gives us the opportunity to start layering, breaking out the scarves, and breaking in the new boots.
From the heart of Wildcat Country, Bear Down.
